Choosing The Perfect Set Make Up      
 

The lofts continued becoming stronger in the irons as well, other than the sand wedge which purposes it to hit the ball high out of the sand or deep rough. This causes a large gap between the modern PW (pitching wedge) and the SW (sand wedge) that it created a need for an additional club most commonly called a Gap Wedge (GW). By looking at the lofts of modern clubs today, the 3-9, PW set is no different than the 2-8 irons of yesterday. Because of the difficulty of hitting a low lofted club such as the 3-iron, most golfers are dropping that club from the bag (although they most likely had to buy it with their set) in favor of a higher lofted fairway wood (like a 9 or 11-wood) or the new generation of hybrid clubs.
