Equipment Cures

Here's a quick tip relating to some equipment cures for players who may be having trouble hitting it to the right or to the left:

For players who have trouble with shots straying to the right, look to the following: a more closed face angle on the woods, a more upright lie in irons and woods, a larger head in both woods and irons for forgiveness on toe hits, and/or a softer or higher torque shaft. Higher lofts on the clubs may also help straighten shots.

For those with troubles to the left, try any of these: more open face angles for the woods, flatter lies or lower torque or stiffer shafts. Higher lofts may also help to eliminate the tendency of poor shot direction. These may help those who tend to hook or pull the ball.

While there is no substitute for a complete fitting to determine why ball flight is not what the player may expect, sometimes a quick fix is just the ideal cure that the golfer is looking for! by Jeff Summitt, Hireko Technical Director - jsummitt@hirekogolf.com
