of model. Grips with a shiny outer surface will repel water and oils from the golfer's hands instead of absorb into the grip like a buffed model. Since the water stays on the outer surface, it becomes much easier to clean and the oils don't permeate the surface and cause the grip to harden. However, when playing in rain, the water stays on the outer surface of the grip, coupled with the oils from the hands, can cause a slippery outside surface. The buffed grips will absorb rather than repel moisture and still provide a surface condition that allows the golfer better control in wet conditions. Grips are often overlooked. But by looking at the outside surface of the grip hopefully will appreciate the difference in different models and which one(s) will be better for different climates. Now if this rain would finally stop… by Jeff Summitt, Hireko Technical Director - jsummitt@hirekogolf.com |
