Through promotion, perseverance and lots of friendly persuasion, the original permanently attached Golf Pride grip soon became the standard of hundreds of models of finished clubs. The real breakthrough for Golf Pride came in the mid-1950s when Junker and Karns perfected the first true rubber slip-on grip. According to Junker, the development of the true slip-on grip had to overcome two major problems – the end of the cap had to be contiguous with the rest of the product, and a method of attaching the grip to the shaft still had to be found. The first problem was resolved when Karnes added a registration pin to the core bar around which the grip was molded, enabling the cap to be created as part of the grip.
