Wedge Fitting

larger surface area with which to dissipate water. Think of it much like tread on an automobile tire. Tread that has more surface area grips the road better; grooves with more surface grip the ball better. Does more spin equate to lower scores? We do not think so. Let’s say that square grooves can stop the ball 5 feet sooner than a V groove. The player still has to be skilled enough to hit the shot 5 feet longer with the square grooved club to achieve the same result. The box groove-V groove issue continues to be debated among wedge makers; Hireko produces some of its wedges with square grooves and some with V grooves to give the clubmaker a choice. One note though: square grooves will tend to cause more damage to a ball’s cover than V grooves. Make sure you make a player aware of this prior to selling him or her a square grooved wedge.

Hopefully this wedge fitting primer will assist you in helping your customers score better. Remember, we are available for any specific wedge or fitting questions you may have!
